What Actually Happens During Your First IV Drip
Honestly, it is a lot simpler than you think.
I get asked this all the time.
What is it actually like? Does it hurt? Will I feel weird? What do I do?
So let me just walk you through it, the way I would if we were sitting at a kitchen table having a cup of tea.
First, why does an IV drip even work better than just taking a supplement?
When you swallow a vitamin, it has to get through your whole digestive system before your body can actually use it. And depending on things like your gut health, how stressed you are, what you have eaten - your body might only actually take in maybe 20 to 50 percent of it. Sometimes less.
With an IV, it goes straight into your bloodstream. Your body gets pretty much all of it, right away. That is why people feel it so quickly. It is not magic, it is just a much more direct way of getting there.
STEP 1 - WHEN YOU BOOK
When you book your appointment, the first thing you will need to do is fill out a consent and health form online. This is important and I do not skip it. I need to know about your health before I show up at your door, so please take a few minutes to fill it out properly. It really does help.
You will also get an email asking you to download the Yooli app. Yooli is what we use to connect you with the doctor for your consultation. It is free to download and really simple to set up. Just create your account and add your payment details in there so everything is ready to go before your appointment.
STEP 2 - THE DOCTOR CALL
Now here is the part that surprises most people, but I promise it is easier than it sounds.
Before your session starts, you, me, and a registered doctor will all jump on a quick video call together through the Yooli app. This is not optional — it is a legal requirement in Australia for me to administer an IV drip. The doctor needs to review your health form, have a quick chat with you, and issue your script before we can go ahead.
The good news? This call is usually quick. The doctor goes through your details, asks a couple of questions, and if everything is good, they say yep, all good, and we are away.
And here is the really good news. That script lasts for a year. So this is the one and only time you will ever need to do this call. Every appointment after your first one, we just get straight into it.
STEP THREE - THE SESSION ITSELF
Once the doctor has given the all clear, we get started.
I come to you - your home, your hotel, your Airbnb, wherever you are comfortable. I bring absolutely everything I need. You just need a chair or a couch, and a top with sleeves you can roll up.
Before anything goes in, I will have a little chat with you. I want to know how you are feeling, what is going on for you, what you are hoping to get out of it. Then I do a quick check and we are ready.
The needle part — honestly, most people make it a much bigger deal in their head than it actually is. It is a small cannula, usually in your arm or your hand. It feels like a little pinch, a bit like a blood test. Once it is in you genuinely cannot feel it.
Then you just sit. Watch something, scroll your phone, have a chat with me, or just close your eyes and rest. I stay with you the whole time. I am not in another room, I am right there with you. The drip usually takes about 45 minutes to an hour.
When it is done I take the cannula out, pop a little bandage on, and that is it. You can get up and carry on with your day. There is no recovery time, no side effects for most people, nothing.
HOW WILL YOU FEEL AFTER?
Honestly it is a bit different for everyone. Some people feel it almost straight away - more energy, clearer head, just better. Others notice it more over the next few hours or wake up the next morning feeling like a different person.
What most people say is that they just feel like themselves again. Not wired or buzzy. Just good. Normal. The way they were supposed to feel.
A quick note on safety. Every treatment I do is prescribed by a registered doctor and administered by me, a registered nurse. That is not just a line - it is the whole point. Your health is not something I take lightly, and the doctor call at the start is one of the ways I make sure I am doing right by you.
If you have any questions before you book, just reach out. I am always happy to have a chat first.
